Get started

Home Video Channel uses the Photos library available to the Apple Account on the Apple TV.

  1. Install and open the app.
  2. Allow Photos access when tvOS asks.
  3. Choose an album or smart channel.
  4. Press Select during playback to reveal controls.
02

Photos access is denied or the library is empty

Open Apple TV Settings and allow Photos access for Home Video Channel. Confirm the Apple TV is signed into the Apple Account that has iCloud Photos enabled. The tvOS simulator generally does not represent a real iCloud Photos library.

03

A video takes a long time to start

Large or iCloud-only videos may need to download through Apple Photos before playback. Network speed, file size, Apple service availability, and the current Apple TV storage state can affect preparation time.

04

Siri Remote controls

Select shows controls. Left and Right move between items when controls are hidden. Up or Down can favorite or add to Review Queue. Play/Pause controls playback. Menu or Back closes controls first, then leaves playback.

05

Favorites, hidden items, and Review Queue

These are app-owned labels. They do not edit, delete, favorite, or hide the corresponding item inside Apple Photos. If local app data is removed, this separate curation state may be lost.
